Celebrating Our Culture Heroes - January 2022
7 min read

Each month we celebrate our culture heroes. Culture heroes are given the ethos award by their peers during our fortnightly team meeting. Then here on the blog, we give them a shoutout and ask them a few questions about what’s it’s like working remotely for In Marketing We Trust.

Today we are celebrating two team members, Martin for always giving it his all, and Sydney for going above and beyond in the short time she’s been with us. They are being awarded today for their dependability and ability to work ‘independently together’, two of our core values.

Martin is being awarded for his dependability.

“Martin Dunk, thanks for the help and support you give to the client services team. I really appreciate your understanding, problem-solving attitude and support as team lead. Keep it up!”

Any tips for keeping yourself focused and delivering great results while working from home?

As one of the team based in Sydney I have the option to go into the office a few days during the week so mixing things up helps keep me focused when working from home.

My other tactic is to get up before work and do some exercise. It starts the day off properly and releases any built-up energy.

Could you briefly describe your main tasks and responsibilities?

I manage our Operations team at In Marketing We Trust which requires me to be involved with lots of different areas of the company. The Operations team ensures all the systems work at the optimum level and review processes to find efficiencies. The main function of the role is to drive improvement and make sure the team can deliver their work to the fantastic quality they do.

How do you manage to juggle so many responsibilities and deadlines?

I have devised a road map for the Operations team and work through ticking off the priorities. This gives longer-term goals that are broken down into weekly and daily tasks.

Why do you like working at In Marketing We Trust?

There is not any of the bureaucracy with larger companies so when there is something that you want to work on and improve it does not require multiple levels of approval before you can take action to make things better.

Sydney is being awarded for her ability to work ‘independently together’, which requires being independent in your work but always going beyond to deliver as part of your team.

“Sydney has been a fantastic addition to the Artrya team and I can depend on her to give valuable & honest feedback and do what’s in the best interest of the team and the task at hand. Thank you, Sydney!”

What is your best advice for working independently together in the workplace (to the point of being recognised for this superpower)?

My best advice for working independently together is over-communication. As we all work remotely, I’m a big believer in communicating more often than you think is necessary. In an office, you can chat at your desk, or catch up informally in the hallway, but you can’t do that from home. Instead, I stay active and engaged in our Slack channels and regularly communicate updates or blockers, to ensure we’re all on the same page.

Any tips for keeping yourself focused and delivering great results while working from home?

Staying focused and delivering results occurs for me when I’m working in a structured manner. I work most effectively in short sprints – 45 mins to 1 hour of focused time, with a short break in between. I’m most productive when I take a few minutes away from my screen throughout the day and stand up, stretch or get some water. A little mental break makes a huge difference and helps me stay focused and motivated.

Could you briefly describe your main tasks and responsibilities?

I’m seconded full time to a client as their Digital Marketing Lead, where I’m responsible for their digital marketing strategy and all activity, across paid media, social media, SEO, content, email marketing, etc.

Luckily for me, I lead a cross-functional team of In Marketing We Trust Specialists who also work on the project and provide expertise and skills in their areas of marketing, to ensure we deliver a holistic range of digital activity for our client.

How do you manage to juggle so many responsibilities and deadlines?

  1. Lists! I have a weekly and daily to-do list, and a prioritising system for tasks
  2. Time blocking is great to ensure my days have structure, and that I have time for larger pieces of work
  3. Write everything down, so that I’ve got a record to go back to

Why do you like working at In Marketing We Trust?

I like the flexibility In Marketing We Trust provides to their staff! Working remotely is great for me personally, and it’s great we have an office space in Sydney, so I can still catch up with colleagues in-person and go into the office.
