Every month we celebrate our culture heroes. Culture heroes are awarded by their peers during our fortnightly team meeting. Then, each month on the blog we give them a shoutout and ask them a few questions about what it’s like working remotely for In Marketing We Trust.
Today we are celebrating two teammates who have gone above and beyond in the short time they’ve been with us. They are being awarded for their ability to work ‘independently together’ and being dependable, two of our core values.
Our Values
Elle Hackett
Elle has been awarded for working ‘independently together’.
“Elle just joined the team recently, but she has already proved her skills and her ‘can do’ attitude. She has not just jumped straight into client meetings but has taken the initiative on what can we do to improve by bringing knowledge and a strategic approach. Thanks for your help so far Elle!”
What is your best advice for working independently together in the workplace (to the point of being recognised for this superpower)?
To be independently together, it helps to communicate openly and share ideas. If something is working well for one person, this can be taken across to other team members to gain overall improvements.
Any tips for keeping yourself focused and delivering great results while working from home?
There are many things that can help to stay focused whilst working from home, including:
- Work with a routine
- Know what goals to achieve for the day, week and month
- If possible, have a dedicated space for work
Could you briefly describe your main tasks and responsibilities?
As the Paid Media Lead, I am responsible for developing the Paid Media team and setting delivery standards and processes. I also work directly with brands to deliver on performance.
How do you manage to juggle so many responsibilities and deadlines?
Having recently joined In Marketing We Trust, I found the onboarding process very supportive. Generally, I can deliver on what matters by reflecting on what priorities are the most important and will have the best impact for the team and brands.
Why do you like working at In Marketing We Trust?
The culture and team of people are fantastic, and I love working remotely.
Martin Sprong
Martin or Sprongie/Sprongy as he’s more affectionately known in the team (apparently we haven’t got the spelling down yet) received the ethos award for always being dependable.
“Sprongy has only recently jumped on board at IMWT and has already shown great enthusiasm, interest & knowledge in his SEO projects.”
“Sprongie has been getting stuff done across all his clients sometimes with minimal background. He has also jumped in on a number of ad hoc tasks without any complaints”
What is your best advice for being dependable in the workplace (to the point of being recognised for this superpower)?
When you work remotely it can sometimes be difficult to create relationships with people. So you might need to work extra hard to make sure people can trust and depend on you
So my advice? Speak up, know your stuff, care for your team & clients and get your work done in time.
Any tips for keeping yourself focused and delivering great results while working from home?
I never was someone who liked the idea of working from home, until we were forced to work from home due to the pandemic. I always thought it would be too distracting. But the opposite is true, although I do believe it’s not for everyone. You need to have a certain personality.
I’m a little obsessive with my sports (triathlon) and this is what keeps me focused. When I’m exercising that is my ‘me’ time and I’m able to completely switch off from everything that happens in life.
Whilst my exercise regime can be quite tiring, at the same time it also gives me a lot of drive and energy. And let’s be honest, exercising or not, who doesn’t feel sleepy during the workday?
So my advice? Get some exercise in throughout the day, enjoy a coffee (or two) and when you notice you’re procrastinating – jump away from the screen and do some household chores or grab another biscuit.
Could you briefly describe your main tasks and responsibilities?
As an SEO manager, my main responsibility is to make search engines love my client’s websites. It’s that simple. There is a lot to it though, like optimising the technical foundation of a website and developing content strategies.
SEO can be a tricky industry, it’s not just a flick of a button and tada you rank number 1 in Google. Our paid search team will do this for you. That is sometimes hard to grasp for clients, so part of my role is also educating clients on how search engines work and why we do the things we do. Not just for SEOs sake, but to improve the digital experience as a whole.
How do you manage to juggle so many responsibilities and deadlines?
Never underestimate the power of a good list. When I start my day, the first thing I do is go through my list of tasks and priorities. This helps me structure my day and keeps me on top of what is ahead or what is left behind.
You can never be 100% focused all of the time and then you also have meetings that break up your rhythm. So I try to schedule the type of work I do around my expected ‘flow’ time. Easier said than done though.
Why do you like working at In Marketing We Trust?
There are many things that make working at In Marketing We Trust great. Firstly we’ve got an amazingly talented team with a range of backgrounds. Secondly, our client portfolio is very diverse making sure you constantly get challenged. Lastly, I’m still stunned by the number of resources that are available for you to upskill yourself and get your work done.
Another part is the flexibility that comes with working remotely. You get a few more hours back in the day that you don’t have to spend commuting to work, instead, you can invest in yourself and your family. And I’m very much grateful for that.
