We had a great time at MeasureCamp Melbourne on Saturday. Besides all the great talks, we also loved giving away free books! As part of our MeasureCamp Melbourne sponsorship this year we decided to give out our favourite books on data for free.
In Marketing We Trust Library Scheme
The In Marketing We Trust library scheme works like this: We give you a free book, after you’ve read it, you pass it on to a colleague or another data pro so the learning can continue. Simple!
Hey there data pro!
We know that the world of data is fast-paced and always changing. We want to support data professionals in their continuous learning journey. That’s why we’re excited to offer you this book as part of our free library scheme.
But here’s the catch – we don’t want this book to collect dust on your shelf. No way! We want it to make its way around to as many data pros as possible. So when you’re done, pass it on to a colleague (or even a stranger!) and make their day. And don’t forget to leave your mark – add your name and a note for the next reader.
Happy learning!

The Art of Statistics
Learning from Data
By David Spiegelhalter
This is the essential guide to statistical science in the age of big data by a former president of the Royal Statistical Society. We’re all familiar with how statistical claims get sensationalised in the media, now in the age of big data, statistical literacy is more important than ever. Drawing on real-world problems to introduce conceptual issues, David Spiegelhalter, shows how statistics can help us determine the answers to big questions that can only be addressed using statistical science.

Great book. Reminds us that simple, vivid/humorous, real-life examples are key to easily demonstrating complex mathematical concepts and are the key to knowledge absorption.
What I enjoyed in this book is the fact that while it is a scientific vulgarisation work, they do not shy away from using the correct language to describe each aspect of statistical analysis.
Perhaps the big takeaway is told in the first few chapters of the book in the form of a popular quote: “All models are wrong, some are useful”.

The Data Detective
Ten Easy Rules to Make Sense of Statistics
By Tim Harford
We shouldn’t be suspicious of statistics, instead, we need to understand what they mean and how they can improve our lives. As “perhaps the best popular economics writer in the world” (New Statesman), Tim Harford, shows us how statistics are, at heart, human behaviour seen through the prism of numbers and are often “the only way of grasping much of what is going on around us.” By removing our fears and learning to approach statistics clearly – understanding how our own preconceptions lead us astray – statistics can point to ways we can live better and work smarter.
